Man of Stone was started in 2013 by award winning stone mason Marc Pate. The aim was to use Marc’s experience to offer an excellent service in Architectural stonemasonry and building restoration with client relationship as the priority. Marc and his team are dedicated to offering the highest quality craftsmanship whatever your project in Natural Stone.
Marc started his stonemasonry apprenticeship after leaving Cotham Grammar School in Bristol. With a passion for the built heritage all around us and a love of hand skills. After completing his apprenticeship, completing work on Salisbury Cathedral, Winchester College and many other ecclesiastical projects Marc competed in national and international competitions, winning medals and being awarded the City and Guilds Licentiate degree as a world class practitioner.
After working as a stonemason and eventually as a project manager on historic projects all over the country (Oxford University’s Christchurch and Help for Heroes headquarters included) Marc started Man of Stone. The mission was to offer the highest craftsmanship to clients and architects, overseeing the planning and execution of the highest quality.
Aside from running Man of Stone, Marc stays involved with skills competitions as assistant training manager to Worldskills UK Stonemasonry, training current Team UK and judging competitons. Marc is also a trustee of Brathay Trust. The charity has been working with children and young people since 1946, inspiring them to engage positively in their communities.
